Intercity Service
Shawnee MTD provides regularly scheduled trips from various
locations within our district to Carbondale and Cape Girardeau, offering access
to shopping, employment, and connections to other transportation services,
specifically for routes originating from Cairo, Illinois.
Please note that we can only transport riders to a designated
drop-off location in both Carbondale and Cape Girardeau. Once at this drop-off
point, it is the rider’s responsibility to coordinate with Jackson County Mass
Transit District and Cape Transit Authority for further transportation within
those areas. Shawnee MTD will not provide drop-offs at other locations in these
cities, as they are outside our service area.
We have coordinated with Jackson County Transit and Cape
Girardeau Transit to ensure minimal wait times for transfers at the designated
drop-off points. To help make travel more affordable, Jackson County Transit
accepts the Shawnee MTD monthly pass for transportation within Jackson County.
Cape Girardeau also offers a free fixed-route service.
Please remember that our inter-city routes require a 24-hour

To schedule a ride, simply contact dispatch at 866-577-6278. A dispatcher is standing by to talk with you and discuss your transportation needs. Requests for transportation should be made 24-48 hours in advance.
2.
TELL US YOUR DESTINATION
Let the dispatcher know who, when, where you are and where you’d like to go. Be prepared to let them know how many people will be riding and if you need a return trip.
3.
WAIT PATIENTLY
You’ve done all you need to do! Relax, wait patiently and let us take care of the scheduling. Be ready 15 minutes prior to your scheduled pickup time. Remember, same day service is not guaranteed and 24 hour notice is required for our Inter-City Routes (Cairo to Carbondale and Cairo to Cape)
